Leonard Bucklin, reenactor of Captain Joseph Bucklin IV during the Revolutionary War period

Re-enactor can bring American Revolutionary Wary history alive!

Leonard Bucklin can tell your group or audience the story of the start of the American Revolution in an entertaining manner. He portrays Captain Joseph Bucklin IV who was born into a merchant family and died at about age 60 at the end of the Revolutionary War.  You will learn what Captain Bucklin saw, thought, and did during his family's involvement in Rhode Island of the 1700's, in sinking the English Royal Navy ship Gaspee in 1772, and during the opening years of the Revolutionary War.

Chapters of the Sons (or Daughters) of the American Revolution will find the portrayal especially interesting, because Leonard can explain the frequent fears and motivations of those who threw in their lot with the revolution and explain the sufferings involved. However, any group interested in American History, or seeking a change of pace for an annual meeting or 4th of July event will gain information and enjoyment at the same time.

In costume, and telling you the events as Captain Joseph Bucklin IV experienced them as the Revolution began, Leonard Bucklin also will interact with the audience and answer their questions about not only the start of the Revolutionary War, but also about family life in Rhode Island. (For example, every part of the costume you see in the picture above is the result of historical research and can lead to discussions ranging from men's hairstyles and hats to the use of lace as a medium of wealth-holding.)

The normal performance is one hour, but the amount of time can be considerably varied on request.

Leonard Bucklin's fee is reduced for civic organizations. Contact him through our contact page.
