The most notable Bucklin for historians is the Joseph Bucklin who Rhode Island celebrates as firing the shot that sparked the Gaspee capture and later the English reaction.  Read about Joseph Bucklin who shot the English Navy ship captain in the 1772 capture and burning of the English Navy ship Gaspee. (Note: the military area of that subweb on notable Bucklins does have a page about the many close relatives of Joseph who were in the Rehoboth Minute Men of the Revolutionary War.

wsbPaint.jpg (617369 bytes)So many Bucklins who have achieved note as artists, that we have grouped them at the  Bucklin Authors and Artists' page.   For example, there is William Savery Bucklin,  a painter in the 1800's.  On the left is an unusual painting by him (most of his were of sunny cheerful forest scenes). William S. was widely known in his day, but non-artists will find extremely interesting his involvement in the North American Phalanx movement.

In summary: for a sampling of notable Bucklins that lived before 1899, go to the Before 1899 Notable Bucklins Page.  For a more extended listing, go our whole separate Notable Bucklins Subweb (several indexed pages) devoted to eminent Bucklins
