This is a continuation of
the page telling you about Gaspee Days for Bucklins
Do you need to ask the fellow in this picture for his unbiased opinion
whether it is possible to have fun at Gaspee Days? More information below !
Generally, if there are Bucklins at the parade, they usually group
behind
the official reviewing stand before the parade and then immediately after the
parade --- head for the Pawtuxet Park for the Colonial Muster in which some of
the major marching uniformed units participate. Some may
wear the Bucklin society patch.

 | The parade is the centerpiece of the Gaspee Days celebration. It
looks and feels like a Hollywood film ideal of a small town parade. That
is, it is a small town American neighborhood atmosphere, with people sitting
on their front lawns in lawn chairs to watch the colonial history parade.
But, like a Hollywood film parade, the parade is full of Revolutionary War
reenactment units, bands and organizations from all sorts of places.
|
 | Since June, 2000, Bucklins have participated in various
ceremonies. George Carroll Whipple III, host of Whipple's World on
television station NY1 in New York City, and descendant of Commodore Abraham
Whipple, of Revolutionary War fame, has portrayed the Commodore in the Gaspee
Days Parade. Earl Salisbury has portrayed the Salisbury that was in the
raiders. Leonard Herbert Bucklin, the executive director of the
Joseph Bucklin Society, and 6th great nephew of Joseph Bucklin, has portrayed
Joseph Bucklin 4th, and Douglas Bucklin, an intellectual property lawyer from
Utah, has portrayed Joseph Bucklin 5th, who fired the famous shot.--- "The first shot of
the Revolution." |
 |
Bucklins have gathered
the afternoon of the parade for some getting acquainted, and an exchange of
genealogical information about Bucklins. Click here to see snapshots of Bucklins
and the parade. |
 | Bucklins spend time in Pawtucket viewing the Bucklin lands of 1645
into the 1700's.
See Bucklin lands. |
 | Other Bucklins spend time viewing the Bucklin Arcade in
Providence or looking for Bucklin
ancestors' graves in Newman Churchyard.
|
 | The
Gaspee parade days are a great time for Bucklins all over the country to get
together, build some interesting friendships; and add to our knowledge
of Bucklin family history. Sit and watch the parade, and on other days in
Rhode Island see some of the sites of the Bucklins of 1640 to 1799 American
colonial history.
|
 | If you want to have the fun of recreating an ancestor ---
you can march in the parade if you provide and wear costume of the
colonial time. You can dress anyway you want, as long as the costume is
of the colonial period. Dress as a farmer (or farmer's wife) or a merchant or
an admiral. Tell us of your
desire at least by May l 1st. We will arrange for
you to join on of the marching units to have the fun of being in a parade that
reminds you of a Disney movie (it's that good).
