Bucklin's
Island was well known on maps of the tidal river area between the Bay and the
falls at Pawtucket., ever since maps were drawn. The thumbnail on the left
is part of a 1777 map drawn for British navy purposes. (Click on the

quarter.)
The "island" was (and is) actually a point of land that was
connected to the main land by a low area that was marshy and under water at high
tide.

Today
the area is known by local adjacent landowners as "Bucklin Point",
since even at high tide now the river does not cause a separation of the
"island" from the former river bank. Bucklin Point now
(as of 2011) contains a large waste treatment plant. Here us a photo of two
Bucklins at the site in 2001. Karen Bucklin,
the lady in the photo, is a prominent environmental engineer.
